EXPERIENCE

Maria provides legal advisory services with a focus on Privacy and Personal Data Protection, including LGPD implementation and governance projects, process and contract compliance reviews, legal opinions, training sessions, and workshops on the subject. She also works on the drafting, review, and negotiation of contracts related to Intellectual Property Law, including licensing, assignment, and transfer agreements for software and trademarks, as well as contracts involving copyrights for advertising and audiovisual works.

EDUCATION

Law degree from the Catholic University of Pernambuco – UNICAP. Postgraduate degree in Civil and Corporate Law from the Federal University of Pernambuco – UFPE. Postgraduate degree in Intellectual Property Law from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro – PUC/RJ.

In the field of Intellectual Property, she has earned several certifications and completed specialized courses, including: certified by the Dannemann Siemsen Institute in the extension course “Intellectual Property and New Technologies”; certified by the Brazilian Copyright Institute (IBDA) in the course “Artificial Intelligence and Copyright: Regulatory Aspects”; certified by ELA Academy in the course “Business Models and Contracts in the Audiovisual Sector.”

In the field of Data Protection, she is certified by Data Privacy Brasil and by the Institute for Technology and Society of Rio de Janeiro (ITS Rio) in courses focused on the General Data Protection Law (LGPD).

OTHER ACTIVITIES

Before focusing exclusively on Intellectual Property, Technology, and Data Protection, Maria spent five years in the Civil Litigation practice of the firm, gaining extensive experience in preventive conflict analysis, managing strategic lawsuits, and resolving business contract disputes, particularly franchise agreements.

Member of the Business Law Committee (CDEM) of the OAB/PE in 2019.

AWARDS AND RECOGNITION

In 2021, 2022, 2024, and 2025, Maria Porto was recognized as one of Brazil’s Most Admired Lawyers by the special edition of Análise Advocacia Mulher.

In the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 editions, Maria was listed in the national ranking of Análise 500 Advocacia, promoted by Análise Editorial.

In 2025, she was also recognized in the Análise Advocacia Regional ranking.

She is the author of the article “Compliance with the LGPD as Part of the ESG Agenda,” included in the ebook “Essays on Digital Law, Privacy and Data Protection,” published by Editora Império (2021).
